Balancing care and privacy starts with explaining what problem the family wants to solve. Knowing someone arrived may require only a message; following an agreed journey may justify temporary sharing. Defining the purpose avoids turning every outing into continuous monitoring.
Monitoring vs. location sharing: what is the difference? Transparent sharing means knowing who receives your position, for how long, and how to stop. Monitoring is broader and can involve frequent data collection. For minors, ECA Digital provides for appropriate information about monitoring and respect for their best interests and developing capabilities. Secret tracking and account intrusion are not Alkateia's purpose. (Planalto)
How can you stay in touch without invading privacy? Agree on updates for departure, arrival, or changes of plan. Avoid demanding instant replies during classes, travel, or activities requiring attention. If using location, choose recipients and duration together. Concrete agreements are easier to review than a general demand for constant availability.
One agreement might be: “Share for 15 minutes on the way back, then message when you arrive. If the route changes, let us know when it is safe.” Its suitability depends on age, needs, and family context.
Who should have access to a position? Only authorized people involved in that purpose. Belonging to a family group does not mean needing to follow every journey. Check recipients before sending and do not forward location to other groups. Android permission allows an app to access a position; it does not alone decide who sees it within the service. How should you respond if a teenager does not want to share? Understand their reasons and discuss alternatives: a call, an arrival message, or a meeting point. Safety should not be a blanket justification for coercion or punishment. For persistent conflict, support professionals may help build suitable agreements without assuming a technical tool can fix a relationship.
How can you do this in Alkateia? There is current location, 15-minute sharing, and live location until canceled. Choose a mode proportionate to the need and verify that it ends. SOS is a separate feature for requesting family help. To understand technical limits and recipients, see the temporary sharing guide and the Privacy Policy.
