An app with an SOS button lets you notify family members when you need help. In Alkateia, SOS sends an alert to family members and lets you share your location to make contact easier.
To use this feature, family members must join the family in the app and set up the necessary permissions on their phones.
How does Alkateia's SOS work?
When you trigger SOS, the app sends an alert to family members. The feature includes location and alerts with an alarm and vibration, depending on permissions, connectivity, and device conditions.
Location helps identify the position of the phone that sent the request. Text and voice messages can add details about what happened.
Who receives the emergency alert?
SOS is sent to members of the family registered in Alkateia. Keep the participant list up to date and agree on who will try to make contact when an alert arrives.
This agreement helps prevent everyone from assuming another family member is already responding.
What should you set up before using it?
- Allow Alkateia notifications on your family's phones.
- Grant the location permissions required for sharing.
- Check sound, vibration, and battery restrictions on each device.
- Arrange a test and check that the alert is received.
Let everyone know before testing. That way, family members know it is a drill and can check how the alert appears.
Does the SOS button call the police automatically?
No. Alkateia's SOS notifies family members. The app provides emergency call shortcuts, but sending a family alert does not automatically contact the police or fire department.
If you need emergency assistance, call the appropriate service. Do not rely solely on a family member responding through the app.
Does the alert work without internet access?
Sending alerts and location updates through the app requires a connection. These features may not work without internet access, when the phone is off, or when permissions are blocked.
There is also no guarantee that a family member will see or respond immediately. SOS is an additional communication feature.
After the situation is resolved
Notify your family and stop sharing when you no longer need to. This helps everyone understand that the request has been addressed.
Shortcuts to call the police and fire department
SOS shares live location with family members. The experience includes shortcuts to call Police 190 and Fire Department 193 in Brazil. These are phone calls, with no automatic emergency dispatch integration.
What happens if an SOS is canceled?
Family members can still see the last recorded location, the time the alert was sent, and when it was canceled. This record does not mean updates continue after the alert ends.
